Mmm, the classes have begun! The classes have begun!

This semester I’m taking classes that actually has made some people cringe and squirm uncomfortably in their seats: Cartography, Physics, Zooarchaeology, Biological Anthropology and Human Prehistory, and Volcanology. My BA&HP class came complete with an EvolutionDisclaimer, and the first thing we’re discussing after the basic concept of Anthropology is …. EVOLUTION. Dun da dunnnnnnnnnn!

The corresponding evolution chapter in the textbook is somewhat interesting, in that it talks about Mendl (hello, monk) and his infamous pea plant experiments. It also gives a nice “tidy” definition of evolution: the change of organisms through time. I’m not done reading the chapter yet, but obviously Darwin will be sailing onto the scene shortly. This textbook came out pre-ID (Intelligent Design), and it doesn’t do much to piss off people who are either agnostic/atheists or not. It keeps things neutral, but does state that evolution in the sense of things changing through time is a fact. It’s an interesting textbook, even a little ‘dumbed down’ in some areas; but the class itself (heck, my minor of Anthropology in general) poses No Risk To My Faithâ„¢.

Needless to say, I’m stoked and excited.

All my other classes are pretty snazzy. Zooarchaeology makes me freak oh so slightly, but I think I will be okay. It’s going to be HARD with a capital … everything; mainly because it’s a senior level course and I’m taking it’s prerequesite class at the same time. But, it’ll be good to have the class under my belt and will come in handy for archaeology digs in the future.

Some things to pray for, if you’re needing something to pray for:
- the fires in my state that are flaring up everywhere, and the safety of those fighting them
- scholastic success for me (I plan on consecrating this school year for added awesomeness)
- the repose of the soul of a person who’s funeral is Friday (thus, my appointment with Fr. L has been rescheduled)
- a special intention of mine
- my brotha and his fam
- my mom and her Parkinson’s
- success at my doctor’s appointment tomorrow (I’m trying a new doctor to treat my RLS).

I think that should keep people busy for a while. ;-) And now it’s off to bed for me, my appointment is bright and early tomorrrow morning. Ew.
