Friends,
I had the “brilliant” idea of going to the Monastery for Thanksgiving. Or perhaps someone Else did. At any rate, I maintained that if God wanted me at the Monastery for Thanksgiving, He’ll get me there. The monks are on board – the Guesthouse is nearly empty. The biggest hurdle thus far has been dealing with my mom, who is convinced that I’m going to be “attacked” by the monks some how (uhm, what). She’s swung from understanding why I need to go to not wanting me to go period. But I’m going, unless she really makes it clear that she does not want me there. She thought the Bennies were a cult – so if she says absolutely not, you are coming home and I still go; to her it’s going to reaffirm her “notion” that the Bennies are a cult (which they’re not, we all know this!). The monks are expecting me and I get to meet Fr. H, who has been helping me via emails (e-formation?!). I get to live Benedictine life, and see again if this is what God wants me to do.
At the very least, God wants me at that Monastery this Thanksgiving. If it snows like the dickens, that would be the only thing keeping me from going. But I am taking the interstate practically the Monastery’s door; so if I am going to spin out I’d prefer to do it on the Interstate. Even still, if He wants me there He’ll deal with the snow. Or help me in it.
Please keep me and my fam in your prayers. And the weather, too.
I’m giddy. Mainly because I know that this is what God wants me to do. And He’s making it happen for me.

What a wonderful idea to spend Thanksgiving at a monastery! How thoughtful for the people there!

I’m sure Monks are great help with homework. They get all that quiet time to study you know.
Definetly holidy film fodder. You know, if you take enough pictures you could just make a flip book and make your own movie.

Oh, man. If I tried to explain the Catholic sense of the word to my mom, she’d never get it. And then say that I said the Church was a cult, and there you go.

I’ll do what I can to take pictures and stuff. Awkwardly enough, I have to take homework and my laptop with me for School (phooey). But having my laptop means that I can fill up my flashcard and then dump it, fill it up, dump it, etc. We’ll see how things go in terms of pictures.
“Thanksgiving With the Monks” sounds more like a bad holiday movie with a family whose last name is “Monk” – a charming family, but dysfunctional. Sort of like a Chevy Chase/Tim Allen straight to DVD hybrid holiday “feel good” movie. ::shudder::
Or perhaps a supplement to the tv show “Monk” (which I do enjoy, when I watch it).
While e-formation may not be the most desirable of things, at least it’s an option. And plus, I’ll find out REAL QUICK if I’m to be a Bennie or not.
Good luck (or providence) with that whole Thanksgiving with the Monks thing. It could be like a TV show or something.
