Assistance from Maccabees

Friends,

I have been thrown out of the tailspin that my life was in at the beginning of this week. I think what’s been the most helpful is getting some part of the Divine Office in my day, staying on the Bennie Wagon, and reading Maccabees. I read it aloud to my finace, which thus keeps me continuously reading it daily. We aren’t making fast progress through it, he tends to nod off. :P At any rate, while I was reading Maccabees last night; I came across a similar pattern: Judas always persevered and prayed to God for His help. Granted, Judas ended up getting killed but still. Point remains. When some big, ginormous obstacle is coming for me, rather than turn tail and run; I should be like Judas and keep going to it, praying to God all the while for His help.

I’ve also found two things that are helping me: writing and bowling. Especially bowling. It’s a nice physical exercise that my physical therapist encourages in order to help build up my leg, I’m currently “bowling for credit” (taking a “how to bowl” class for credit, hee hee hee) so this gives me practice, and it’s really stress relieving to hurl a ball at unsuspecting pins. I might take up bowling as some sort of hobby when the class ends, who knows. :P

Our Lord has heard my cries and rescued me from myself by assisting me with what is in front of my face. I just have to open my eyes and use them. The spiritual warfare is still there, but I must be like Judas and keep on persevering and pray to God for His help.

Pax!!
