St. Benedict lived in the 5th and 6th centuries and is regarded as the “Father of Western Monasticism”. He studied at a university, became dismayed and fed up with the secular culture of the time, so he retreated to the desert. On July 6th, 1902; an eleven year old girl died due to 14 stab wounds she suffered during an attack by a neighbor. Her neighbor attempted to sexually abuse her. Her name is Maria Goretti — she was born October 16, 1890 in Italy. She was extremely pious and helpful, even as a child.
