Since graduation, Greg and I have settled nicely into our temporary abode until our apartment is finished. The biggest thing was obviously finding a good OB to take care of Elise and me.
Last Tuesday was the intake with the nurse, which left me a little concerned. The nurse didn’t really seem to understand that I hadn’t had a cycle between miscarrying our beloved Honeymoon Baby and conceiving Elise – there was some drama over the estimated due date. She also said that I would be doing the gestational diabetes test at 26 weeks, which is fine by me.
This past Tuesday (so, one week later) we had our appointment with the OB himself. He seemed confused over why the estimated due dates were so far apart between my last cycle and the ultrasound. I explained to him my situation, and he understood what was going on and threw out the EDD based on cycle and is going off of what the ultrasound says. He also was confused about why the nurse said I would be doing the GD test then, as he doesn’t administer them until 28 weeks, unless Mama is showing symptoms of gestational diabetes. There are other practitioners at his office, so luckily the nurse who saw me the first time is not his dedicated nurse.
Elise is doing well. She is making my belly measure a week ahead, but the OB isn’t concerned by it (and neither are we). She got really uppity (as usual) when the OB was listening to her heartbeat and kicked the Doppler – hard. Elise hates it whenever someone pushes in on my belly or if I lay on my side and some of my belly is pushed in. She kicks until the cows come home, or until the pushing in stops. Granted, I could be misinterpreting her kicks and she likes being squished, but I don’t know. I hate small spaces, so perhaps she’s taking after me in that regard.
That being said, she better like being in small spaces for another 11 weeks, minimum.
I see the OB at 28 weeks for an appointment and the diabetes test. I was sent home with explicit instructions about the test and a little bottle of Glucola. I believe we are starting the phase of appointments every two weeks instead of every four.
For inquiring minds, here’s a more updated picture of Elise and I:
Elise’s new favorite thing to do, is to push out on my belly (see what I mean by not liking small spaces). It actually is quite painful, sometimes I have to tap her to get her to not push AS hard. This morning she was rolling around – or something that felt like rolling around. I still maintain our little girl will hate being swaddled once she’s born, if her behavior in utero is any indication of her behavior “on the outside”.

Thank you! Hopefully all my business will subside for a little bit.
