Sleepiness and An Update on the Flesh Eating Bacteria

I am so tired, it’s not even funny. I know I should expect some degree of sleep deprivation and exhaustion from having Elise, but we’re talking beyond that. There are lots of things I want to write about – finishing up my conversion story, writing about the Benedictine Oblates, about the Feast of Christ the King, Advent, life …. but I can’t. I’m too tired to. And it’s not post-partum depression, I don’t have any of the signs of depression. I actually haven’t felt depressed since 2006 (Deo gratias!). I’m prone to seasonal depression, but thankfully we haven’t fully been cast into the throws of winter. Right now the sun is shining, the shades are open and it’s just glorious inside.

I’ve been working on recording my waking temperature again, even though they’re very erratic due to breastfeeding and Elise’s sleep regressions. Even though they are erratic, there is one consistent thing – they are very, very low. Like, 96.6*F low. Before pregnancy my baseline was about a full degree warmer. Greg and I have plenty of covers on our bed and the heater running, and I don’t shiver or feel cold. A book I have regarding nutrition and fertility talks about how low waking temperatures can be a sign of a thyroid problem, which aren’t uncommon postpartum. Greg and I still have to find a doctor for us, and I want to try and get my nutrition a little more balanced before I see if I can get a full thyroid check Just To Be Sure.

Not to mention Elise is hitting developmental growth spurts and is sleeping poorly, so I’m not entirely convinced that my sleepiness is related to something other than her. We would bedshare if our bed allowed it. It’s extremely plushy and soft and is not conducive for bedsharing. She does sleep in the same room as us – right next to our bed. So I don’t have very far to go. I nap when she naps (as best I can) and haven’t taken on more than I can handle.

So, I know I’m way behind in responding to comments, to writing about topics people have requested I write about. I know no one is giving me a hard time but I just want people to know that I haven’t forgotten, and I do have the intention to finish what I’ve started.

And not to be a total downer over here ….

We went back to Wags and got his prescription filled for the steroid creme the doctor prescribed. His index finger is still pretty ghastly looking, but his middle and ring fingers have shown marked improvement. We think it’s going to take a while for his index finger to fall in line, but we’re glad that something is working and he’s in less pain already. :) Hopefully his fingers keep responding to the creme. Thank you for all who have suggested help for him – we deeply appreciate it.

Off to eat and nap.

heya sorry to hear how tired you are :-(
nothing really to suggest other than, as you say, more naps.
dont worry about not writing about certain topics, just reading about your daily life is interesting en

i actually wrote u a `comment to your last post with pictures of greg’s fingers but then i got distracted with something (..probably joseph…) and so it never got posted. but i did want to say that the photos look very much like excema & in between the`fingers is a common place to get it (my dad has it there). i’m glad the steroid cream is working.

:) Thank you! It was getting better, but it’s getting worse again. It’s definitely related to stress, but I’m glad that it at least responds to the steroid creme. He’s going to have to take some more of it again, but that’s fine; the doc said it would be fine for him to repeat treatment.
