As tomorrow is Pentecost, I wanted to post this beautiful Litany of the Holy Spirit I found on EWTN’s Pentecost section:
Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us.

Jesus, Eternal Son of the Father, Redeemer of the world, save us.

This would have made more sense on one of your conversion story posts, but the comment field was left off…
How did you go about studying the Scriptures and different denominations?
What would you suggest to someone is believes, but is desperately trying to find out which church our Father wants us in?
There are so many denominations out there, how do you keep from being overwhelmed?
Thank you for your help!

Hi KLT,
My apologies for having the comments off on my conversion posts. I was on a mini retreat from comments, so that’s why they were off!
For me, coming from a Protestant background; I saw a lot of disunity and discord and couldn’t imagine that Christ came to establish so many different churches (denominations). I studied some denominations, such as the Lutheranism that I left; but it just didn’t make sense. This did get me pretty frustrated, to say the least.
I did look at the origins of the Bible. It obviously didn’t fall from the sky in the 17th century. The original texts weren’t in English as well, I knew that much. I looked at the history of it, to see where it came from. Someone had to determine which is Inspired by God and which isn’t. I then concluded that obviously, God would be involved. He would make sure that His Words were kept and preserved in their form, not added, removed or anything like that. Since He cannot deceive nor be deceived, I felt (and still feel) quite comfortable in that kind of assurance!
I also prayed a lot, a lot a lot a lot, and made a promise to the Father that I would follow Him anywhere He wanted me to, to the ends of the earth, regardless of what it cost me. This required me (personally) to put away a lot of anti-Catholic stuff I was taught growing up and to just go through bit by bit, what I had heard about Catholicism (and Mormonism, and Judaism) and find out, from the horse’s mouth – so to speak – what the TRUTH was. There were things in Judaism I couldn’t not believe in (Jesus Christ) and things in Mormonism I couldn’t believe in (Joseph Smith’s vision, for starters). The more I found about Catholicism, the more I found in the Bible, the more I found in the Early Church Fathers, the more I was convinced the Catholic Church is Truth, and is the One Christ left until He comes again.
I hope that helps! God bless you, and you are in my prayers!
