Life as a Catholic wife and mother

Back to the grind

I took a few days off to enjoy the Fourth of July holiday. Greg didn’t have to work on the 3rd, so we spent some good quality time together. Although I guess we’re officially Parents And Adults, as on the 4th we didn’t light any fireworks or watch any displays. We opted to go to bed early. Thankfully, the firework noise was not enough to keep Elise awake. Granted, she could sleep through anything; but still. ;-)

The highlight of the weekend though, was attending another Tridentine Latin Mass. We made a 2 hour drive for it, and it was so awe-inspiring. My vocation as Wife and Mama meant that I didn’t really get a chance to see much of the Mass, as Elise was being very rambunctious, as usual. So, we spent most of the time in the Church foyer – I could still hear the Mass, but we weren’t disrupting the parishioners. For Mamas of toddlers who attend TLM (and take them with you) – how do you receive? I don’t think I’m coordinated enough to hold Elise, kneel, keep her hands off the paten/priest’s hands/Christ and receive without something going awry. At the NO Mass it’s easy to hold Elise and receive on the tongue that way. I ended up being unable to receive because I had no clue how to manage Miss Wiggles. I made a Spiritual Communion instead, and will be heading to Daily Mass tomorrow.

Regardless, I loved the TLM. Afterwards, we had lunch with the parish. Since it’s a small (like, no stop light in the town small) parish, they obviously knew we were visitors and were very warm and welcoming towards us. A lot of the women cooed and fawned at Elise, and remarked on her good behavior. One woman in particular thanked us for having kids, and went on to tell us that she had 12 kids, 2 who are already at Home with the Lord. If I could, I would want to go there everytime the TLM is offered.

Now Monday is here and it’s time to get back to the grind. :X At least we have awesome weather – I’m going to try and dry the towels on our little drying rack outside. Someday, I will have a clothesline. :D

    Hi!

I don’t know you, but I used to frequent CAF a while back and found your blog that way! I check it every once in a while because I love to keep up with other young Catholic mamas!

My husband, daughter and I attend the Traditional Mass! I guess I’ve never thought twice about how we receive the Blessed Sacrament. My husband will usually take our 14-month old during Communion (because I think he likes to show off – it’s a first-time daddy thing maybe!). When we kneel to receive, he just shifts her over to his side and holds down her hands with one of his hands. I do the same thing when I hold her, except I have to use both of my hands! I think the priest and the altar server are very aware of babies and are probably watching carefully! We’ve only had one “mishap” where Molly (my daughter) grabbed ahold of our priest’s stole as he was moving on to give Holy Communion to the person next to me. She was so little and the priest just paused and kind of smiled at her!

Anyway, that was long! If I’m outside the chapel with Molly during Mass, my husband always makes sure to come outside and go to Holy Communion with me so he can take Molly and just so that we can receive Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament as a family. Perhaps your husband (if he doesn’t already) can try that? It’s been very helpful now that you mention it!

This was random, but I hope it helps! God bless!
