As seen in my Benedictine monk uncle’s email signature:
A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter; he who finds one finds a treasure.
A faithful friend is beyond price, no sum can balance his worth.
A faithful friend is a life-saving remedy, such as he who fears God finds;
For he who fears God behaves accordingly, and his friend will be like himself.

I’ve found it especially applicable today.

That takes me back. I made the Stations of the Cross every Friday of Lent for my last three years of college, and the booklets we used had that passage from Sirach listed for the station where Veronica wipes the face of Jesus. Coincidentally, I was just at the National Shrine today, where the images from that booklet reside.
(I am also pleased to discover that Firefox spellcheck picked up when I accidentally spelled “Jesus” with a lowercase J.)

For added fun, next time Greg and I are blessed with a daughter, I so want to name her Veronica. I love the name, the meaning, the backstory (wiping Our Lord’s face, of course). Hurrah for God-incidences!

I, too, love that Sirach verse! Protestants are missing out since they don’t have the book of Sirach in their Bibles :} I’m so glad you are part of our rosary group! The friends in that group have certainly been “life-saving remedies” for me, and I’m glad we can be that for you too while you carry your current cross.
