Consolation from Fr. Groeschel

Last night was the last night of Fr. Groeschel’s visit to our Diocese. He attended a prayer group and potluck, and after we were done eating, some of us had a chance to visit with him (and of course, ask for his blessing!). Greg and I had Elise along, and he asked if she was our first. We told him about our Honeymoon Baby, and as he was giving Elise a blessing, he started talking to us about how we need not worry about our Honeymoon Baby, as Our Lord told St. Faustina that He desires ALL souls to come to Him, and not to worry and entrust her to Our Lord’s Infinite Mercy.

I know a lot of people who have had miscarriages have had the great blessing of Baptizing their baby. We weren’t able to do that. And I know a lot of people, in their grief; take great comfort in that Baptism, but forget that not everyone has had that opportunity. While Greg and I both knew prior to meeting Fr. Groeschel that our little Honeymoon Baby is a Saint indeed, it still was like a knife to both of our hearts when people unintentionally (and sometimes intentionally) insinuated that our child was missing out. I know that grief definitely affects everyone differently, but it still hurts us.

I will treasure our brief visit with Fr. Groeschel, because in that simple, less than one minute explanation; he gave us the ability to finally take something so painful as “you don’t know your baby isn’t in Hell, so why call her a ‘Saint’?” and be able to let it slide off our backs.

Thank God for His holy priests, who through them make the gentle touch of God tangible.
