7 Quick Takes, End of the Day Edition

1.
It’s been one of those days – kind of blah and dreary. No real reason, maybe hormones getting unsettled or whatever. It helps that Elise went trick-or-treating at Grandma and Grandpa’s work, dressed as a (very) cute little lion. Rawr!

2.
Because I am a book-a-holic, I finally was able to obtain a copy of a book that has seriously intrigued me for quite a while: Holy Sex! A Catholic Guide to Toe-Curling, Mind-Blowing, Infallible Loving by Gregory Popcak. I mean, how does that NOT get you interested in reading it? And it’s not like a Catholic version of a sex position guide, but rather (so far) goes into the deep theology of Sex – what is, and what it is not. Greg’s reading it as well, and we both agree THIS book should have been given to us in Pre-Cana.

3.
For the first time in like, three years that I’ve been writing here; I’m adding new categories. So far I’ve added “Prayer Requests”, and will add more as the need arises. I’ve been wanting to do that for the longest time, I finally found time to do so. Heh.

4.
I’m entering one of those times where I reconsider my time online (as in, how much I spend online and what I do with it). A kind of check-up, so to speak. I’m especially looking at my usage of social networking and how much of it is ‘needed’ and how much is just clutter in my life.

5.
It’s always fun when someone introduces themself to you and says “I’ve seen your blog…”. 8-)

6.
I’ve found the fastest way to incite wank unintentionally is telling someone you’re cutting back on your TV watching time. It’s really interesting to how some people get offended at this. I’m still trying to figure out why.

7.
Something interesting I’ve noticed: women are more likely to ask “so, how many kids do you want” or the dreaded “are you DONE now?” question than men. Men are more likely to think it’s great we’re expecting and give us sincere congratulations without a snippy comment mixed in with it.

  • And a voice from the “catching up on my feeds” crowd: Regarding “Holy Sex,” do you think it would have been odd to receive that from a friend for your engagement or wedding? I have good friends from college getting married next summer, and I’d consider sending this to them if I didn’t think it might be… weird. Do you know what I mean?

You know, I personally wouldn’t be weirded out if it came from a friend. I’d be really intrigued by it, and I think it’s a really good book for all married couples to have. That and Christopher West’s book (The Good News About Sex and Marriage). Popcak has a lot of really good humor in the book so it’s not going to be all dry and boring. It’s quite humorous without being an overkill or losing the focus of the book. :)

Re: #5 – it wasn’t TOO terribly alarming since I’m friends with his wife, but I did have a fellow parishoner say that to me. She found my blog from Catholic Answers, lol.

Re: #6 – I’m glad no one here is totally into weird violent shows. Greg likes the faux-horror movies, the really cheesy lame stuff that’s just more funny than scary. I saw a horror flick in the theaters (“Saw”, I think it was) and I have not seen once since. UGH! I hope you can find some resolution … soon!

I haven’t gotten the number 5 comment yet…but I have a feeling my anonymity is short lived considering my interests. :)

Number 6: OY VEY….talk about family conflict! I have told a parental unit that I generally do not spend the evenings Upstairs b/c of their choice of grossly violent tv shows. You would have thought I slapped them cold upside the head! They still choose to watch the shows rather than have my presence more often. Sighs. :-(

LOL, I’ll bet! We want to have a TV for watching movies, but that’s pretty much it. So far, we’re not there yet, but taking baby steps to get there. :)

lol! I know what you mean about the “tv” comment!
try “we dont own a tv” — that REALLY gets some people irritated!

and as for the ‘are you going to have any more’ comment about children, I always try to answer with a massive super enthusiastic smile “Oh yes!!! Definitly!” ; which leaves the questioner looking perplexed and unsettled! but you’re right, men *are* more positive than the women are. It was the same when I left work; the female doctors were far more catty and annoyed at me than the men doctors!
