Still here, still pregnant

And am I an ornery pregnant lady, too.

My hide is a little chappy because once again, we’re getting into that territory of “Elise is not doing X at her age, I’d like an evaluation done when she’s 2 if she’s not doing it by then.” We don’t agree that if X isn’t happening by 2 that Elise needs to be sent for evaluation. Once I feel mentally ready to discuss it here, details forthcoming; but until then, pray for us.

In addition to it being St. David’s Day, the first of March, the beginning of Spring around here, it’s my birthday! :D A little shameless promotion, if I may. It’s been kind of a rough day for me, mainly thanks to the above. :| My plans for the day include going to McDonald’s for some chicken nuggets (I know, fast food is horrible but I’ve been craving those suckers for months now), a giant bubble bath with a good book, and going to bed early.

I sure do know how to rock, don’t I? ;-)

  • Actually the Dark Ages were less interventionist. According to my mother, the Dr. said, “Well, if she isn’t cruising in a couple of months, we’ll do some testing.” I cruised and walked within a couple of weeks!

^ That’s what I was trying to say, yay brain fog! :D

  • [...] feeling more rawr about the whole ELISE IS BEHIND drama that has been brewing. In a nutshell, she’s not performing with the OTHER KIDS in terms of speaking. I’m sure [...]

@ Laura – I almost wonder if something happened where he didn’t suggest an eval and WANK EXPLODED … now he’s almost overcautious? Who knows, but he’s too awesome to go elsewhere. :D

    @ Anne – thank you! :D

@ Don – “Now, some of the guidelines are more accurate than others, but even then, the person will progress in their life as they see fit.” I am so bringing that up at the next appointment, especially if the ped still thinks she needs an EVALUATION. We’re not concerned, if anything; we think he’s being too careful/premature.

@ Belle – That’s what we’re hoping for – that in the next six months she’ll begin to talk up a storm! But even if not, Greg didn’t start talking until he was well over 3; so she’d have to be MUCH older before we’d get concerned. It just drives me NUTS – first it was her weight (which was an actual concern, we just couldn’t get her old doctor to believe us), and now it’s this (which we’re not concerned, and luckily her ped isn’t nearly as “I KNOW ALL” as the old doctor was). *eyeroll*

Pray that LO decides to come – I have a lot of those early early labor signs (no contractions yet) and it is driving me NUTS. I’ve been so uncomfortable as of late that I’m thinking that when I do go into labor; I’ll actually be MORE comfortable. :X

    Belated happy birthday! :)

Our little girl didn’t talk much even at 2, which worried me. My SIL, a speech therapist, said she thought DD was OK but that if another few months went by without improvement then we might want to have her formally evaluated. Wouldn’t you know shortly after that her speech exploded and now, of course, she never stops talking! :p

Just b/c “they” say something that doesn’t always mean all kids will get there at the same age. With that said, if you are concerned, look into an evaluation — your instinct is there for a reason. Don’t worry, it’ll be fine!

Hope your little one decides to come out soon! :)

Was a busy day for me yesterday, and I didn’t get on line much, but HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!

The studies done by “psychiatrist” and “psychologist” are “basic studies” as far as I am concerned! They MAY provide a guideline of what to expect, but those guidelines are SOOOOO not average or normal, it is just a guess of what should be happening at a certain time in growth. Each person progresses as they will. Now, some of the guidelines are more accurate than others, but even then, the person will progress in their life as they see fit.

I am confident that the Lord has your child progressing the way He wants her to! I’d not sweat it at all!

    In Christ

  • Hope you had a happy day!!! Hang in there. Prayers headed your way! You’re doing a great job :)

I figure the ped kinda has to act worried about every little thing, because if something really was wrong (1) parents want to know & (2) lawsuit city if he said it was nothing X months earlier. kwim?

Glad the nuggets were delish for you. Maybe the chili sauce will jumpstart LO into an exit sequence.

I look forward to some surprise fluffy mail!

@ Anna – nowadays, I don’t even want to THINK about the wank. I would hope that the Dark Ages would be less interventionalist than today, but I could be wrong. :X

@ Laura – I figured someone would be wondering “gee, is she in labor?” :P I really wish I was – a few more BH contractions but nothing really to get excited about. My mom is thinking the 5th of March now for a birthday … I’m thinking more closer to the due date.

My gut says not to worry, but you would not BELIEVE the amount of people who have commented (thanks, unsolicited advice people!) who say “but Elise is a GIRL, therefore she SHOULD be saying this, that or the other.” It’s like, people are absolutely boggled that there’s a late-talking girl running around the face of the earth. Our ped has been such a great doc that I’m flabbergasted that he’s on that “EVALUATION” mind-frame.

The good thing is that having kids has DEFINITELY installed a spine into my otherwise mousy self. :-)

The McNuggets were amazing – the chili sauce for the Olympics (because I’m SO SURE that Olympians are really downing endless bags of McDs, but that’s a different thought) is really, really good.

I didn’t get DC on your cover, because I was on the failboat this morning; but you should have it by the end of the week. Hopefully.

I was thisclose to messaging Greg on facebook and asking if you were in labor. Happy birthday!!!

We’ve had the same stuff from our ped. Matthias only had 2 intelligible words at 18 months, but “they” say 18 month olds should have three words. He’s exploded since then, although I’m sure it’s still a small vocabulary compared to some kids (and just because I know what he’s saying doesn’t mean it’s pronounced correctly). There have been other things that the ped was worried about at one checkup that were completely moot at the next. My gut never told me to worry, so I didn’t. All this to say, I hear you!

    Enjoy your McNuggets. (:

  • …makes me wonder what a Ped would have done with me in the Dark Ages of 30-some years ago…when I didn’t cruise or walk until I was 18 months. In other words, stick to your guns and watch your little girl blossom at her own pace.
