Life as a Catholic wife and mother

August’s plans and festivities

Here are our plans for August. These are based on whether or not Greg’s surgery is successful and how long he spends recovering in the hospital. 6 – The Transfiguration of Our Lord. Since this is the day that Greg goes under the knife, if I can pray the Luminous Mysteries; I’m calling it a [...]

Hearts for Home – July 20 Edition

1. Start working on the August feast day plans. July has been successful in that I can see what needs to be adjusted for next year and Greg really enjoys the special treats on the feast days. I’m sure Elise does, too. 2. Start writing out what I think Greg’s Mom should know for taking [...]

July’s plans and festivities

I wrote that I am slowly working on creating a “book”, so to speak; with all the feasts and occasions important to our family written down and ideas on how to celebrate each event recorded. I’m not sure what to call it, other than I’ve been loosely calling it “feast day feasts” when I talk [...]

Hearts for Home – Week of June 29

Gae writes: In today’s busy and aggressive society mothers at home are not given much encouragement to be committed to their role in being home. In my weekly ‘Hearts for Home’ post I am encouraging myself and others to commit to thinking about what 4-6 things we can do each week to bring our thoughts, [...]

New Routines

Over the last week, I’ve been implementing a bunch of new routines into everyone’s lives. Last week Greg was out of state on a business trip, so I took the opportunity to do something radical: putting Elise to bed earlier. It’s gone over relatively well – she has had a couple of nights of protest [...]

Books-a-pa-looza

Mike asked on my last post which books I picked up from the library. For me – Your Two Year Old: Terrible or Tender by Louise Bates Ames – The Everything Homeschooling Book by Sherri Linsenbach – 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke For the kids – Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do [...]

Moms Don’t Get Sick Leave

Last night I went to bed with a giant migraine and woke up today very congested and sounding like I have smoked 80 packs of cigarettes every day in my 28 years of life. Thanks be to God, no one is showing any signs of illness (probably due to breastfeeding Benedict and putting breastmilk into [...]

Allow me to pat myself on the back a little

1. I de-cluttered one corner of the kitchen. That one corner produced 2 kitchen garbage bags full of trash and a bag to the thrift store. (To be fair, that corner was a catch all corner). 2. Through some miracle, I have managed to stay on top of the laundry. I think the miracle is [...]

Oh, hi!

I’ve been trying to figure out what to write for … a while now. It seems like I’m in some weird fog of writer’s block, which happens quite regularly around these parts. I can’t for the life of me figure out why it comes so often. Eh. We’re all doing quite well around these parts. [...]

Happy Easter!

He is Risen! Alleluia! I hope everyone has had a happy Easter thus far. Our Easter Sunday was full of Mass at Dawn, food, Elise’s first Easter Egg Hunt, and spending good quality time with family and some of Dad’s friends who were passing through town. We’ve done the fasting, now it’s time for feasting!
