Resuming our regularly scheduled programming

Thanks for all your prayers regarding Greg. We’ve been back home for a couple days, and he’s feeling loads better. The Neurosurgeon and his partner talked to us for an hour in the E.R. and eventually decided to adjust his shunt and admit him to the hospital overnight for observation (and to make sure [...]

Shunts and Houses

We did end up going to see The Neurosurgeon on Friday. We opted for a day-trip, which involved leaving at 5:30am and arriving back at the house around 5:30pm. Everyone handled it really well (yay) and we managed to make it back home before the sunset.

The Neurosurgeon’s assistant said there’s a possibility that [...]

Brains: they’re complicated

Greg, the kids, and I just returned from a nice trip to the Big City. Long story short, my mom had a complication from her DBS installation and had to have one of the leeds removed.

Essentially, the skin eroded away on one side, causing her to bleed and leak CSF for almost a [...]

All the fun things

* Benedict went through another bout of WORST TEETHING EVER, accompanied by his friends Low-Grade Fever and Diaper Rash. He turned the corner after a massive nap on Major Dad Sunday evening. Now he’s back to being a smiley, sleeping little man. We’re still working on the diaper rash, but that’s airing out nicely.

[...]

Cleared 100,000

Yesterday, as we were pulling out of The Big City, our Mom-Mobile clocked 100,000 miles. Greg was slightly surprised, but if you think about how going to and from Greg’s neurosurgeon appointments is 500 miles; and how many times we’ve made that drive – it’s not too surprising.

We had our final appointment [...]

Why, hello there!

I’m slightly giddy by the fact that Benedict’s sleeping last night went like this:

8:45pm: Asleep Midnight: Asleep! 2am: STILL ASLEEP! 5am: Pre-breakfast snack, followed up with more sleep

And as of now (7am), he’s still sleeping.

Since Benedict’s sleep was so well, mine went like this:

10pm: Asleep. Midnight: Asleep! 2am: STILL ASLEEP! [...]

Brain Damage

We’re back from the angiogram. Thank you for all your prayers; Greg’s angiogram was successful and showed no new aneurysms. We are basically DONE with endless doctor’s visits, just one last shunt follow-up in November. Thanks be to God!

We did learn the extend of Greg’s brain damage from his burst aneurysm almost [...]

Home … for now.

I took this picture of some of the scenery that we pass whenever we head to The Neurosurgeon’s. I think the silo is almost 100 years old (or maybe even older). I love the contrast between the silo and the abandoned building and the clouds in the sky. Way off in the distance on [...]

Day Interrupted

I’m getting quite skilled at driving from here to The Neurosurgeon’s.

Not too long after I wrote about the CSF leak that had been glued shut, Greg came home and had me look at his head. And sure enough, it was still leaking. We did just as The Neurosurgeon asked which was drop everything [...]

He’s sprung a leak!

Yesterday was a follow-up appointment with The Neurosurgeon to remove the stitches from Greg’s head and chest. We noticed that the incision where the pressure monitor was had some gunk on it, but we figured it was from the ointment they had him apply to it. Well, it turns out that that was not [...]
