Life as a Catholic wife and mother

A Thanks

Now that we’re back home and Greg is doing better and better each day; we both want to express a heartfelt thank you for all of your prayers and support. We are convinced that Greg’s speedy recovery has been due to all of your prayers. It really is amazing how many of you simply took [...]

Home

At 6am Wednesday morning, The Neurosurgeon walked into Greg’s ICU room and said that “hospitals are for sick people. You’re not sick. I’m discharging you at noon today.” The only restriction was that we stick around the hospital area for 24 hours (we went to the hotel across the street). After breakfast this morning we [...]

Success!

After he came out of his surgery, Greg said he hasn’t felt this good since 2001. Needless to say, the surgery was a total success. His nurse tonight said the goal is to get him out of ICU tomorrow. DEO GRATIAS!!!!!!!!!

Third surgery scheduled

The Neurosurgeon is going to install a programmable shunt valve tomorrow. Whether or not the ICP horn is coming out tomorrow is unknown. But, Greg should feel loads better once that new valve goes in. His nurse is arranging for a priest to bring him the Eucharist. We are doing much, MUCH better today. Your [...]

Decision Day

Monday morning The Neurosurgeon will be deciding what direction he wants to go with Greg. It’s hard typing on an iPod but here is what Greg is going through: * trying to get his brain up to normal pressure via external csf drainage. He has had some hydrocephalus in this process. * brain is used [...]

Live from ICU

Greg is asleep right now, which is awesome. He had a rough night – I stayed with him in the wee hours until he was taken to CT. Everything is pretty much the same as yesterday, although he is tolerating slightly higher head pressures, which is what the doctors want. Still, it is a long painful [...]

Surgery update

I am sitting outside the hospitals ICU, where Greg is. I am on his iPod so forgive any typos. He tolerated the tie off well but developed hydrocephalus right away. He had emergency surgery to untie the shunt and have a pressure monitor installed. The Neurosurgeon is going to keep the monitor in until Tuesday [...]

Thoughts on Greg’s surgery

I’ve been trying hard not to think too overly much about Greg’s surgery. The whole house is jittery about it. Our biggest concern is that Greg will look fine in terms of hydrocephalus in the hospital, but in a couple weeks (months?) end up getting it. And since there is no neurosurgeon where we live, [...]

August’s plans and festivities

Here are our plans for August. These are based on whether or not Greg’s surgery is successful and how long he spends recovering in the hospital. 6 – The Transfiguration of Our Lord. Since this is the day that Greg goes under the knife, if I can pray the Luminous Mysteries; I’m calling it a [...]

Hearts for Home – July 20 Edition

1. Start working on the August feast day plans. July has been successful in that I can see what needs to be adjusted for next year and Greg really enjoys the special treats on the feast days. I’m sure Elise does, too. 2. Start writing out what I think Greg’s Mom should know for taking [...]
